So I recently purchased a few boxes of cereal at what I thought was a good deal. Shortly afterward The Wife said something like “you better eat all of that!”, which ultimately leads to where I currently am working my way through boxes of children’s cereal. One of my favorite cereals by the way is Fruity Pebbles due to the amount of sugar being the second ingredient, the first ingredient is rice. What does that mean?
It’s gluten free… which of course means it needs to be smattered all over the front of the packaging. Which of course is my pet peeve of the day. There isn’t really any proof that gluten free does much of anything for most people, but people continue to make outrageous claims that skipping out on this grain oriented protein will change your life. One of the things that bothers me the most about this new found craze is that this is something that was cooked up recently with many yuppies in town deciding that they had a gluten intolerance. I guess you could say I am intolerance of intolerance, because I just don’t buy that something man has been eating for thousands of years all of a sudden is causing a bunch of problems.
I guess my biggest problem is when it forces me to turn the box over and realize that my favorite cereal consists of Rice, Sugar, Vitamin Powders (Basically!). Do you believe in the gluten free hype that it’s poisoning our wells and kicking our dogs? Or is this just another fad that people think is going to solve all their problems until science comes along?
