I received one of the most dreaded emails from Gmail overnight informing me that someone had indeed logged into my account from what appears to be Turkey. The good news is that it doesn’t appear my account had been used to send out a ton of spam mail or anything else.
The Good
- Google caught someone trying to hack into my account and hopefully prevented any damage that could have been caused by someone having access to that account.
The Bad
- I only use that Gmail account to buy things from websites that require I register, which means a website I buy stuff from has been compromised.
- My credit card information could be released into the wild currently and I will need to look into that later today.
Just when you think it’s going to be a regular workday, you receive information that someone hacked your email and there really isn’t anything you can do is change your passwords and wait for a change to occur that you didn’t authorize. Out of everyone I am probably the most prepared with several usernames/passwords and several email accounts for different purposes, so this should blow over quite quickly.
Have you ever had your email broken into to send spam or steal your information? How long did it take you to get it resolved?
