There seems to be more and more talk in the media about the drought that is effecting most of the United States. Most of the stories relate to how corn is going to cost more and it is going to end up causing nearly everything to cost 5-10% more.
First off, as a regular citizen there really isn’t anything you can do about a price increase due to less productive crops, and you will probably end up paying more even if there turns out to not be any serious problems. On the other hand, there is a lot that is being done currently to increase the prices of corn that is greatly controlled by what politicians do. On a trip this past weekend I was reminded of this after driving past 2 ethanol plants that are working hard at increasing the demand for corn to put into our gas tanks as mandated by law.
Doesn’t it really make you wonder how smart of idea it is to require a food stable to be added to petroleum to make a drought affect nearly every aspect of a persons life?
