“….and that’s not all
ooh-ooh, there will be snacks there will”
The lyrics to one of my favorite Andrew Bird songs that sums up one the wisest details of a wedding I was a part of this weekend.
The agenda for the evening overestimated the time for the actual ceremony (a forgive-ably common mistake, I’ve found at quite a few weddings), which added an extra half-hour to the Social Hour. Luckily, the social hour didn’t just include an open bar, but also a buffet of high-quality snacks. Its amazing how much of a difference this seemingly small detail made. Not everyone was privy to the play-by-play schedule that I had as a part of the wedding party, so they might not have been aware of this extra wiggle room in the schedule.
As a regular wedding guest, I know the alternative scenario well – you sometimes drive in from out of town, eat lunch at a regular time, or early due to trying to make it there on time. Then sometimes after the ceremony you end up being held hostage until an unknown dinner time. There’s nothing even like a social hour provided – there have been a few (otherwise lovely) weddings I’ve been to where we’ve been left to our own devices while the wedding party take a two-hour break for a photo session before dinner. Other times, a cocktail hour has been provided, but drinks on an empty stomach probably aren’t the best idea.
In summary, I love snacks. Especially high quality snacks that involve cheese.
“There will be snacks. Sweet and savory both, okay, so don’t worry.”
