Usually when I go “exploring” while walking through different neighborhoods I in St. Paul, I am surprised to find a neat hidden park or some other feature that I may have not seen or heard about unless I had been doing so. While on a recent hike near downtown St. Paul, I stumbled a crossed what I would deem the saddest/worst park in the area if not the whole county. The park consists of a strip of land with a few trees (totally acceptable for a park!) with a weird looking pull wooden pullup bar with a large set of wooden hand on it, and a bench with large feet on it.
Both of these items looked quite new or at least well taken care of, but seem quite useless due to the fact I haven’t seen anyone do a pull up (they don’t even do them in schools!) or a sit up out of their own home in a long while let alone this park next to I-35E. If this qualifies as art, I think that we can do better or at least could have made an effort not to taint an area that some sort of real activity could have taken place by locals.
I say they should either leave parks as green space or place functional “equipment” on them instead of workout items from the 1950′s in crucial area in already small parks. Have you seen a more pointless park either in location or in items being added that ruin it’s function? If so I’d like to hear about it.
BTW: This park doesn’t show up on any city maps or anything so they definitely shouldn’t have done anything other than mow this area.
