Good or Bad Marketing?

Woman's RazorI recently purchased a men’s shirt from 6pm.com and when it arrived in the mail there were a few different things in the box. Of course my shirt was in the box, along with two or three sheets of unrelated advertising and a Women’s Shick Razor.

I can see how mailing out flyers with packages will get people to look at them to see if they are related to what they bought. That may be worth the few cents it costs to toss them into every package and randomly target customers. What I do wonder is how cost effective it is to send out random samples of products that may be gender specific (or are seen that way!) attached to unrelated products. The item I received has an $8.00 price on Amazon and cost at least 50 cents to make.

Do you think it’s an effective form of advertising to make send out samples that are relatively expensive at random to hopefully gain new customers? Would you switch brands if you received an amazing razor in the mail?
