Every so often, I am torn in between whether changing my oil is worth is considering coupons our always available to get an oil change for my vehicles for under $25. I can usually change it at home saving $10 if I do not include my time for changing the oil, owning the tools, or disposing of the oil.
What might be changing this tossup in the near future is I recently purchased Fully Synthetic Oil and a Fram Ultra oil filter for $25 with both claiming to be able to go for 15,000 miles without a need to be changed. If I could go 3 times as long between oil changes with paying less than twice the price that’s a pretty good reason to change it at home. Unfortunately, without sending my oil in to be tested there is very little ways to tell how long the oil is good for unless you can magically tell when your oil is “too black”. I will report back in a few months on this letting everyone know at least for the junk I drive whether it’s worth the extra cash to get higher grade filter and oil, or it’s best to stick with the regular that lasts 3000 miles and gets changed every 5000.
