The Wife and I moved into our house several years ago realizing that it did not have a dishwasher installed in it and there wasn’t really any functional place to put it into the existing kitchen. By functional place, I mostly mean there wasn’t a good way to allow it to drain out using the existing system without doing a major kitchen overhaul or ultimately going with a portable dishwasher. After doing several years of analysis and reading numerous reviews online and doing some serious price shopping, I decided that it is well worth paying a built in dishwasher price for a portable unit to limp us through to a full kitchen remodel.
It seems to be the only solution when you realize how much time you can waste standing in front of cleaning the same dishes you did yesterday… something a machine is perfectly capable of doing. Maybe it is a combination of mankind’s hate of washing dishes or some unknowingly expensive part to construct dishwashers, but they seem to demand a hefty price and hold to it fairly well. I personally am shopping Craigslist and open box stores, so if you are giving in to not hand washing dishes stay away for a few weeks.
Have you ever had to live for an extended period of time without a dishwasher? Maybe the 80′s? Are there any other machines or slick devices that save you a lot of time that you have had to go with out? Let me know.
