Attack of the Giant Phones.

A while back, Samsung released the Galaxy Note cellphone for people willing/able to use AT&T for their wireless service. What was ground breaking about the Galaxy Note is that it has 5.3″ screen which if it doesn’t seem like much it’s borderline making phone calls from a tablet. I for one like the idea of these larger screened phones that are thinner and more advanced that most current cellphones, this is why I was quite happy when Samsung announced the Galaxy S3 which if you have been keeping up with the blog is 2 generations beyond my Galaxy S.

Some of the new features that are being incorporated into the S3 like cameras on par with current technology, eye recognition (for knowing not to turn off the screen), and a vast integration of voice commands. Why I like these improvements so much is that my old phone still does a much better job than the average phone when it comes to voice recognition/commands and takes fairly good photos. Of course the major difference is that it is really thin for it’s monstrous 4.8″ screen and will most likely be available on most if not all networks. I can see how this might not be a benefit for people if it makes carrying it in a pocket uncomfortable if not impossible for smaller people. I see the larger size as another strength, being closer to a tablet it will be easier to read/control, yet be more portable and acceptable to be sitting on your desk at work.

Is this giant cellphone craze a flash in the pan or is it here to stick around? Would you find one of these phones to be an upgrade in functionality to what you currently use?
