I know this is relatively old news, but Google decided to merge all of your account data into one data base. Instead them having data for your Google branded products separate from other products that they own such Picasa or Youtube, they are piling all your personal info into one file. There reasoning is that it will “Improve Experience, Help Advertisers” is about 50% correct. They will use it for more targeted marketing like many websites already do.
Have you ever looked up a pair of shoes or some other item on Amazon then headed over to another one of your favorite websites and saw that they awkwardly had the same shoes or item that you were looking at earlier? Facts are almost everything we do these days on the internet is used to market something else to us especially when using these large services that are seemingly free. My problem isn’t with that they track my information or use it to target items to sell to me. My issue is when I buy gifts for other people, or The Wife or someone else uses my computer “just for a minute,” I end up leaving a advertisement trail that directs them to sell me books about magical wizards and hair binders.
What do you think about Google and other companies tracking nearly every movement one the internet? Are you the paranoid type that thinks they are out to get you…. or that they could be some day? Or do you like the enhanced shopping experience on the web?
