A few days ago, I went against my better judgement and purchased an Irish (St. Patrick’s Day) themed beer. I don’t have anything against the Irish, I just don’t have any idea what to expect as an “Irish flavor” always being hopeful it doesn’t have anything to do with leprechauns. Lucky for me, it was called “Snake Chaser” and was Irish Style Stout from my favorite brewery from a neighboring state.
As far as stouts go it was dark in color but didn’t taste as dark and earthy as most. It seemed to almost a crisp taste to it which separates it from most of the beer in it’s class. That of course makes it much easier to have 2 or 3 of them instead of not having an appetite after having a heavier one of it’s brethren. It’s ABV is 5.1% so it’s a touch more than average, but quite usual for stouts.
Have you tried any new craft beers recently that are worth the cost? Does it bother you when a breweries best beers are seasonal?
